HIV Nutrition Programs
Sharon Ann Meyer A.S., A.A., D.T.R., is the President of HIV ReSources, Inc. in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She is the Editor-in-Chief of the HIV ReSource Review, HIV Nutrition Update and the free HIV Nutrition News Update. Sharon is also Secretary of the HIV/AIDS Dietetic Practice Group of the American Dietetic Association, Nutrition Editor for NUMEDX journals, and co-author of HIV Medications Food Interactions (And So Much More).




HIV ReSources has collected and published HIV nutrition program information for the past five years. This article summarizes the information collected to date and sheds some light on the various issues related to serving the nutritional needs of HIV-positive people. Sources of funding, provided services and population data provide the reader with insights on the changing face of the HIV pandemic.
 
 
 


 
 

Editors’ Note

Information in this issue adds to the limited knowledge available on programs providing nutritional services for people living with HIV/AIDS. The feature article highlights data from 28 nutrition programs in various states within the U.S. and one program in British Columbia (BC), Canada surveyed from 1999 through 2003.

The Update Central column offers information on recently published studies related to glucose abnormalities and diabetes while the Program Spotlight highlights the PATH Center in Brooklyn, NY. This issue also features Actonel, used for bone disorders, and links to information on diabetes and dietary supplement research.
