Food Medication Interactions
The popular Food Medication Interactions (12th edition - ISBN 0-9710896-0-4) authored by Zaneta M. Pronsky, MS, RD, FADA is available as a handy pocket-sized reference book and Computerized Food-Medication Interactions software. This informative and useful book offers an alphabetical listing of more than 1,000 medications by both generic and trade names and is cross-referenced as well. To help identify food interactions, effects reported 5% or more frequently than with a placebo are underlined and effects reported 20% or more are capitalized and underlined. Each entry contains information on when and how to take the medication; effects that alter nutritional status; specific dietary recommendations; possible gastrointestinal effects; potential interactions and reaction alerts; use during pregnancy; alterations in laboratory parameters; and commonly published recommendations for specific patient monitoring. The software adds a variety of useful tools to help the clinician including the ability to print patient handouts.

As with most book revisions, the twelfth edition of Food Medications Interactions is larger than previous issues and holds a variety of useful reference tools. The resource has information on the effects of medication on food intake and nutritional status and guidelines for counseling medicated patients. Numerous tables are included such as drug-alcohol interactions, herbal product cautions, micronutrient food sources, and laboratory values.
