Nutrition for Healthy Living (NFHL)
By Denise Li, BS

In fact, NFHL provides seminars at various sites both to educate and recruit the HIV community. The study’s goal is to expand the enrollment to all the cities and towns within a reasonable commuting distance. The flyers and invitations for NFHL sponsored events are sent to all HIV affiliated services. NFHL provides poster presentations for organizations to display at their headquarters. Additionally, NFHL staff contributes articles for HIV community newspapers and magazines. NFHL is generous with their staff and information. Again, the goal is to spread the “Good News” throughout the HIV network locally and nationally. Just recently, NFHL staff and two participants taped a show for the Boston local TV network.

Do clients participate regularly in HIV/AIDS networking groups? Yes. Each participant is given a nutritionists telephone number and all are encouraged to call anytime with questions. All the physicians are also available for questions and support.

What have you found to be most useful in helping to keep up with the current research on nutrition and HIV? According to Ms. Connors, “NFHL has great researchers, RD’s, MD’s, PhD’s, who keep abreast of the current literature, write papers and abstracts, attend HIV Seminars and present NFHL data nationally and internationally. The entire NFHL staff meets monthly to discuss problems, clinic procedures, protocols, new HIV medical issues and outcomes, and papers in progress. This project is unique in that it considers each staff member a valuable team player and encourages initiative at all levels.”
